About Stock Compass

Stock Compass is a trading decision and review tool for individual investors. It does one thing: it turns your own trading rules into strategies, scans your Hong Kong, US and China A-share watchlist every trading day, tells you what your rules say to buy, add, trim or exit today, and then records every signal and every trade so the data can answer "do my rules actually work?"

Why it exists

The person who builds it also trades Hong Kong and US stocks, and ran into the same problems most retail investors do: knowing a stop should be taken and not taking it, chasing a rally and getting caught, making money without being able to say whether it was skill or luck. The tools on the market either show charts and news or place orders for you. None of them answer "would my rules have made money?" or "did I lose because of the rules, or because I overrode them?" Stock Compass was built to answer those two questions.

What it does

  • Strategy builder: 30+ technical and fundamental indicators (RSI, ADX, moving averages, volume ratio, 20-day breakout, P/E, ROE, net margin, days to earnings and more) combined with AND / OR groups into four rule sets — buy, add, trim, exit. No code.
  • Daily signal checklist: every trading day your rules run across the whole watchlist, prioritised exit > trim > add > buy > watch. Buy and add signals are confirmed only once the day's bar is final; exit and trim also refresh intraday.
  • Signal scoring: every signal stores its signal price and is scored at T+1, T+5 and T+10 against actual closes (gross of costs), so you can see how a strategy really performed on your own watchlist.
  • Trade journal with attribution: each trade records its trigger (strategy signal or discretionary), thesis, planned stop and target, and on close whether you deviated from the plan. The review page splits P&L into rules-based vs deviated, by sector, by holding period, stop-loss discipline and sold-too-early counts.
  • Backtesting (Pro): run your buy and exit rules over historical daily bars for win rate, profit factor and max drawdown.
  • Sector and position hints: sector relative strength, holding concentration, suggested position caps.

What it does not do

  • It does not connect to a broker and does not place orders. The trades you log in the app and the orders you place with your broker are two separate things.
  • It does not recommend stocks. Signals are the output of your own rules, not anyone's advice.
  • It is not an intraday tool. Data is daily-bar first; intraday quotes are delayed 15–20 minutes. It is built for setting direction before the open and reviewing after the close.
  • It does not sell your data. See the privacy policy.

Where the data comes from

  • Daily bars: Yahoo Finance (HK, US, CN), with Tencent quotes as a supplementary intraday source for A-shares.
  • Hong Kong announcements and results dates: HKEXnews.
  • Fundamentals: public financial data, refreshed quarterly.
  • Data is used only to compute indicators for the stocks in your watchlist and is not guaranteed complete or timely; the signal and detail pages show the data timestamp.

How signals are computed

Each market has its own scan schedule. A scan first merges the day's bar into the price history, then computes every indicator for every ticker, then applies each of your enabled strategies. The same stock can be a "buy" under one strategy and an "exit" under another — that is not a contradiction, it is two rule sets disagreeing, and the page marks it as a divergence. Everything is deterministic rule evaluation; there is no black-box model.

Pricing

The core is free: daily signals, the strategy builder, the trade journal and attribution. Pro adds a larger watchlist, backtesting, email alerts and sell-by-lot, billed monthly or annually with a free trial. See pricing.
